The SQL%ROWCOUNT and SQL%FOUND can be used to test for the status after an update operation. If SQL%FOUND is true then SQL%ROECOUNT will hold the number of rows updated. If the transaction has failed then %FOUND will be FALSE (and %NOTFOUND will be true) and %ROWCOUNT will be 0
