I don't think you've said anything of the kind and it's not purely this
thread. Every couple of weeks this subject seems to come up and the same
arguments get bandied about. Strange thing is that up to a point I agree
with the points being made in this thread. We all know of platics DBAs who
took the OCP in order to bolster up a bad CV but just as we're not all good,
neither are we all bad.
I'd always hope that anyone who interviews me is competent to evaluate my
level of skill. I certainly wouldn't choose someone for interview purely on
their OCP status but I do find that companies have started to add
certification to their list of requirements. I'd be foolish to ignore that
fact.
I've deleted most of this thread but some of the contributions I've
particularly enjoyed were :

"From my experience with a few DBAs that waved their OCP around like it was
a
Nobel prize, some probably should have malpractice insurance.  Lots of it."

".. doctors have malpractice insurance and OCP does not or do/should OCP
have one too."

"OCP is more like a 'learner's permit'."

"I've no respect for the OCP. I saw MANY people bought the exams from many
sources."

I'm sure that Oracle Corp would love to hear some details about that last
quote.

For the record.
OCP does not teach you anything.
OCP is NOT a measure of how much you know.
OCP IS treated as a revenue stream and a motivator towards buying
educational materials.
OCP IS becoming more important to recruiters. 

And that last one is the biggie. This year I've had several agents tell me
(quoting from job specs) that the DBA must be certified. I assume that
they're not interested in my 25 metres breaststroke badge so it must be OCP.
