Steve,

    I've seen three replies all of which are mostly right. Their problem is
that if a user has one and only one row you'll get that one too which will leave
you with a table of only those who had multiple rows in the first place. Darn,
I hate that too. Try this instead:

delete from <table> a
where created = (select min(created)
                 from <table> b
                 where b.user_id = a.user_id)
  and created != (select max(created)
                  from <table> c
                  where c.user_id = a.user_id);

Hi,

Can anyone help me with this delete statement?

I have the following table:

 Name                                      Null?    Type
 ----------------------------------------- -------- -------------
 USER_ID                                   NOT NULL NUMBER(15)
 PASSWORD                                           VARCHAR2(30)
 CREATED                                            DATE

What I need to do is delete the oldest record for a particular user_id.
And its doing my head in. Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
Steve.
