I've been an Oracle DBA and developer for many years (more than 10) and I
have also been a Unix Sys Admin (about 5 years). I am used to playing god
with the server , where I am the DBA and the System Administrator. (Of
course these days, a lot of companies and clients want a segregated
environment , a separation of church and state , so to speak. The DBA
cannot be the Sys Admin.)

I'm pretty good at writing scripts in Korn shell for Unix and Rexx in
Windows NT/2000. As a matter of fact, I write most of the utility scripts
for our group. I think it is part of the essential upbringing of the DBA
to know how to use scripting languages. It makes life a lot easier and it
is part of the job when running Oracle on a Unix platform.
It is a necessary and expected skill to be able to use scripting languages.
After all, SQL Plus is one.

So , show the love!
