Rick,
Once a query is submitted to the server for processing the client can
evaporate without disturbing it's execution. The database server will know
nothing about the client's status until it has the first row of data ready to
send, which can be hours or days later. At that point the database will know
that the client has died/disappeared & close out the connection dumping the
result set in the process. Bummer!!
The solution I set was to set everyone's profile in the database with
CPU_PER_CALL = 360000. This provides ~ 4 hours for any one query to complete
before it auto terminates. Note that things like DBMS_LOCK.SLEEP or
DBMS_LOCK.REQUEST or DBMS_ALERT.WAITxx do not count against this limit. And you
must have RESOURCE_LIMIT=TRUE in init.ora.

Hi All,
We have users who sql access who will issue long running queries(you know
the type) and just shuts down their computer while running.
I assume once sent to the server that server is still executing it or will
it die once connection is broken. Can someone explain what actually
happens in this scenario.
Is there anyway to detect/kill process.
Thanks
Rick
