the oracle job queue processes... The following is an educated
guess... If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct
me...

think SNP originally stood for snapshot job... When Oracle introduced
snapshots, they needed a mechanism to schedule and run snapshot
refreshes... Hence the SNP background processes... Then someone at
Oracle decided they could externalize this mechanism and DBMS_JOB was
born...
