I have never tried it but I think you can basically do whatever you want with an extproc and the system() C call. A long time ago, with Oracle 6 I think, (before extproc were available) I wrote a daemon under VMS which was waiting on a DBMS_PIPE, getting commands, appending /OUTPUT=something (OK VMS-lovers, Unix pipes are a great thing ...), calling system(), reading the something file and shovelling the result back the DBMS_PIPE. Simpler of course with an external procedure. It was funny to issue VMS commands from client PC.
