its a pain in the arse but you have to pull out the backed up controlfile(you did backup the controlfile, eh?) out of the rman backup piece(i've got a script that will do it automagically based on the filename pieces you pass it).

then once the backed up controlfile is restored, then you can do normal recovery procedure.

That's what I have heard (from 2 Oracle University Professors/Lecturers/Demonstrators). But no one would tell me when it may happen. We do not use RMAN (yet) so I did not pursue it further.
