Have you considered a stand-by database instead? You can open it
in read only mode, then update it at a time that is convenient for 
you.

And the product is called LogMiner... a Minor is a child,
a Miner is an old guy with a long beard that smells to high
heaven and sits in front of his deep gold mine with a shotgun
ready to shoot anyone thats going to try to steal some of that
there gold.

I am trying to find out more on using LogMinor to create a reportable
database.  
I plan to duplicate production schema on different server and use
LogMinor to apply only some changes to reportable database.  Also I am
planning to create triggers that will sort new data from archive logs to
denormalized tables on reportable database.  Has anybody done similar?
I found bits and pieces but no real examples how to extract only the
data that I need.  
I am running 8.1.6 on Solaris.
