With the example you gave, then yes, it is possible. It is dependent
on the TCP timeout value set for your OS before disconnecting a dead
session. I've done this many times on Linux using intel hardware and
cheap network switches and it works. The timeout value is the key
here. It's probably in the range of 30 seconds to 2 minutes depending
on the OS.
