One of the segments will be chosen to be the final segment and all other segments will be trimmed (except the one chosen to be the final table) and merged into the final segment.

It is likely to be quick - and if you have enough spindles in play it may be even quicker it you make it execute as a parallel create. If you do, be careful of your choice of extent size, as each separate PX slave will behave as if it is solely responsible for creating the table. A side effect of this is that if you run with degree N, then you could easily end up with about N extents that are half-empty. Pick an extent size which leaves you with a potential wastage that isn't going to irritate you.
