Murali, I can offer some insight into the activation# column because I was interested in that too earlier. When a database starts, a new "database instantiation id" is given to that instance, presumably for the RMAN backups. This id can be seen from v$database under column activation#. So when you create another incarnation of the database using RMAN cloning, the archived logs are either used or not depending on the value of this activation# associated with them.
Hope someone else can shed some light into the other columns - particularly archival_thread# and why it's different from the thread#.
