Anyone using HP K-class servers connected to IBM ESS running HP-UX 11.0 and Oracle 8i successfully - if so maybe you can shed some light on the following :-
We have a test HP K460 (9000/889) connected to an IBM ESS for storage which we are currently testing to see if we can connect all our test and live servers (all HP K-classes) to, in order to provide centralised cabled storage. The problem is we get random data corruptions reported in different Oracle data files in all Oracle instances 8.1.7.0, 8.1.7.3 and 8.1.7.4. These corruptions show up in the alert log but usually cannot be confirmed by dbverify and sometimes not even by doing full table scans on every table in the datafile, however sometimes we can see the problem doing a full table scan. Currently we have a corruption being reported in one of our instances (8.1.7.0)system tablespace every ten seconds in the alert log, a dbverify is clean, however a select from dba_segments or dba_extents gives an ORA-01578: Oracle data block corrupted. We have had problems like this in the past that after a shutdown and restart the "corruption" disappears which has caused us to suspect the ESS, HP to ESS connection and/or HP patch levels. The K-class box has been patched to Quality Pack December 2002 along with various hardware patches recommended by IBM. Not sure what I am asking other than being convinced that this setup can work successfully as we have applied so many patches to the HP server and still get fake Oracle "corruptions" that we are on the verge of binning the ESS. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, apologies for the long post.
