Igor, It depends. If you are not aware of what the tool does, you will get caught by surprise (like my co-worker;) May be there is an option to not create the SPFILE.. I didn't use the tool when I upgraded a few my databases to 9i. But, AFIAC, I am staying away from SPFILE, as long as possible, for my own reasons......
