I didn't follow the link That Dennis gave you regarding use of explain plan, but I am sure it explains how to get it initially set up for you. Once that is in place I recommend looking up a sqlplus utility called autotrace.
To enable it you need to create a role(by running a script @?/sqlplus/admin/plustrce.sql --make sure you are connected as sys). You then assign the newly created "plustrace" role to you and anyone else who may need it. To turn it on you just type set autotrace on at your sqlplus prompt. There are other options that refine its usage, but that should get you started in the right direction. I am just studying a book, and try to learn from some of its questions. a. Which util do I use to see oracle's execution plan for a SQL statement? Which statement would you recommend me, so I can actually try it and see results? b. If I need to tune the SGA ONLY, should I concentrate on the log buffers, the library cache or the shared pool? thx maa -- Please see the official ORACLE-L FAQ: http://www.orafaq.net -- Author: Maryann Atkinson INET: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fat City Network Services -- 858-538-5051 http://www.fatcity.com San Diego, California -- Mailing list and web hosting services --------------------------------------------------------------------- To REMOVE yourself from this mailing list, send an E-Mail message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (note EXACT spelling of 'ListGuru') and in the message BODY, include a line containing: UNSUB ORACLE-L (or the name of mailing list you want to be removed from).
