Hey Lisa (Monkey?), Yes, I had a problem with the stale option, too, at least under 8.1.6. It would bomb out with "no more rows" or something like that. Under 8.1.7.4 on Solaris, I no longer had that problem but I did have some poorer explain plans than with good ol' ANALYZE. See the "Burned by DBMS_STATS **AGAIN**" thread starting on 04/07/2003.
