Dennis,

Thanks for your input. I am doing what the manual says
- 
shutdown , copy, mount, alter, open and every time
I'm getting the "unknown file header" message. I
suspect that I am missing some parameters in my dd
command because of - as Stephen suggested - different
formats. I guess I will have to play with different
parameters to see which one is correct.
