Phil,

At first thought --> where does Windows build the trace file before it
plunks it into the destination directory for that file.

Could it be in TEMP? If yes, exclude TEMP as well.

Any change when you excluded all the drives?

NetShield 7 exists now.

I am having an interesting problem with regards to Netshield 4.5.1 and
Oracle8.1.7 on Win2K. We have a 3rd party app that generates a trace file
due
to deadlock issue. When NetShield is enabled with the Oracle drives (data
and
ORACLE_HOMEs) excluded from the scan, we have a severe performance loss and
the
db hangs for about 10 minutes while the trace file is generated. As soion
as
the trace file is generated, performance returns to normal. We can
reproduce
this every time using the same test.

When we disable NetShield, the deadlock occurs, the tracefile is generated
and
we do not even realize it has happenend. There is no performance loss at
all.

We are going to test by excluding all drives from the scan and removing one
drive to determine if we can pinpoint where the rogue scanning might be
occuring.

Has anyone ever experienced this and if so, how was it resolved?

Thanks very much.
