i dont understnad what you mean by 'SP'. Reads dont get saved anywhere. you came from a sql server, sybase background or a shareware database background right? You dont need to lock the table. Oracle provides read consistency. So if you select from a table at 1AM and the query lasts 5 minutes. Someone else updates the table at 1:03AM, you will see the table as it looked at 1AM.
what do you mean by SP? What is your DB background? They are not identical. Table locking is a big no-no in Oracle. Its unecessary. > > From: WLSH <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 2003/08/04 Mon AM 02:09:23 EDT > To: Multiple recipients of list ORACLE-L <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: How to Lock and unlock a table until SP completes > > Dear List: > > How can I lock and then unlock a table? Dear List:
How can I lock and then unlock a table? A SP only runs about 2 sec, but during its execution, sometimes there are more records saved to the table the SP is working on, then the SP confused. I want to be able to lock a table while the SP is executing, and then by the end, release the lock. Is there a way to do this? How? Can any one give me an example?
Thanks
Steven
