My worst one was when a datafile autoextend to 4GB boundary and hit a bug in 8.1.6. Then we discovered that the last backup was taken about 3 weeks ago due to change in tablespaces placing that was not corrected in the backup job.
We did two things in parallel: 1) Called Oracle support, got an answer that there is no way to recover the database. Finally they come with an internal utility that rescued the data from the database. 2) Tried to recover from 3 weeks ago. This failed because some archive logs were missing. Al last we rebuild a new database and loaded the data that oracle support rescued from the ruined database. Also we contacted the application supplier to get a script to find how to calculate start value for a sequence.
