Here is a very complex program that will do the same thing:


#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;
open SYSLOG,"/var/log/syslog" ||
     die "Cannot open syslog:$!";
while (<SYSLOG>) {
   if (/HZ/i) {
      print ;
      exit;
   }
}
 And here is the result:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp]# ./clock.pl
Oct  9 01:27:18 localhost kernel: Detected 2187.741 MHz processor.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] tmp]#

I believe that tells you all that you wanted to know.
