Patch for Oracle on linux which is supposed to enable directio on Ext2 filesystem does not work on Ext3.
Here is my configuration:

    Linux medo.adelphia.net 2.4.22 (RH 8.0, Ximian GNOME2, latest kernel)
    glibc-2.3.2-4.80.6

Oracle:
SQL> select * from v$version;

BANNER

Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
CORE    9.2.0.3.0       Production
TNS for Linux: Version 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 9.2.0.4.0 - Production

Here is what happens:

ALTER SYSTEM SET filesystemio_options='DIRECTIO' SCOPE=SPFILE;

Shutting down instance: further logons disabled
Shutting down instance (immediate)
.......
ALTER DATABASE   MOUNT

ORA-00204: error in reading (block 1, # blocks 1) of controlfile
ORA-00202: controlfile: '/data/oradata/ctl/control01.ctl'
ORA-27091: skgfqio: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27072: skgfdisp: I/O error
Linux Error: 22: Invalid argument

Direct I/O works on IBM JFS. It doesn't work on Ext3, not even with the patch applied.
