The whole point of Method-R (the Millsap/Goodman/Holt tuning method) is to de-mystify and simplify tuning. Eliminate the guess-work. Precisely identify the performance issue and nail it. Everyone who is willing to put in some sweat equity can use Method-R. I'm not sure how a badly fragmented table would show up in a 10046 trace file. If a table reorganization is really required, I think a trace would show excess physical io.
