When I certified it was a requirement to have worked at least five years with Oracle databases before you could even register for an exam; soon the certification process became race to see who could memorize the 'exam cram' books and take the tests the fastest (or so it seemed) as those having received their OCP 'credentials' didn't know much more than when they started memorizing questions and answers. And there have been several occasions when I've worked along side a recent OCP and have been shocked at how little they knew and how poor their problem solving skills were. Certification is for HR anymore, because resumes and cover letters in some companies are screened for the 'certified' and 'certification' keywords and filed accordingly. My two cents.
