client is looking for a consultant who can teach one or two of their DBA's
more about the items listed below through hands-on work on their part. The
tasks are listed in the order we would like them done, subject to change.
1. Uninstalling / reinstalling Integration Services on single nodes of SQL
Server 2005 cluster containing multiple instances.
2. Installing SQL Server 2005 cumulative updates and hot fixes on single
instances or multiple instances of a cluster.
3. DTS and SSIS Packages
* Moving to 2005 environment but leaving as version 2000 DTS package. This
consists of running and redesigning them through the legacy tool download
available.
* Changing to 2005 SSIS packages - The in-house application developer will
be responsible for doing this for most of the packages, but our client needs
an understanding of the steps to take to make the DTS packages available to
the developers.
* Need to know the upgrade steps or what needs to be done to have a DTS
package function in a 2005 environment
* Needs assistance in documentation for a SSIS package to move DTS packages
in bulk mode.
* Create SSIS packages from scratch and then teach this ability.
4. Compatibility level for restored 2000 databases on SQL Server 2005
cluster
* Some applications require that the compatibility level remain at SQL
Server 2000. Are there any checks and balances that can be run to determine
what problems WC will run into when we change to compatibility level SQL
Server 2005, other than the upgrade adviser?
5. SQL Profiler - Tutorial type training.
* Our client needs someone with expert level understanding and comprehension
of SQL Profiler and other tools or components that are a part of SQL Server
2005. Needs to be able to determine where problems or inefficiencies are
and how to resolve them. Need to be able to determine the blocking lock for
applications, in particular the tax package. Need jobs set up to run as
needed.
6. Server Consolidation
* Our client would like to be able to consolidate servers. Our client would
like to move off of several old servers and put those databases on the SQL
Server 2005 cluster. Our client has to be able to document that there will
be no negative effects as a result of this. Needs to be able to document
projected growth. Our client would like to use the tools that are a part of
SQL Server 2005 whenever possible.
7. Our client would like to be able to identify security loopholes and
determine what needs to be encrypted. Our client needs to ensure that we
are following the HIPAA rules.
8. Our client would like to be able to audit security changes. Our client
has a product called Diagnostic Manager from Idera that needs help setting
up jobs and alerts.
9. Our client would like to be more proactive and have the system/server
alert us under certain conditions.
10. Our clinet would like to be able to generate copies of our databases
that contractors, 3rd party vendors, or others could use that have
confidential information replaced with fake values, but appear to be real,
not just filled with X's. This would most likely be done with a third party
tool, so our client would be looking for suggestions.
11. Have SQL Server recognize additional hard drive that was added for
backups.
12 Any other tasks relating to moving from SQL 2000 to SQL Server 2005
