Need: VMWare Unix Engineer Location: St. Louis, Missouri Duration: Long Term Rate: DOE Only Locals Please Job Description JOB DESCRIPTION - DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Platforms team is a newly formed team in Operations as part of the DCMS group. The Platforms group is responsible for the implementation and 2nd Level support of Solaris and VMware systems and is to provide highest service levels to these systems. The supported systems are in both Assembly and Production environments with many running Mission Critical applications with a strong emphasis on proactive management. The group supports IBM and HP Blades which will provide a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of cutting edge technology. JOB SPECIFICATIONS - ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE . Provide day to day technical support for the VMware based Virtual Infrastructure, UNIX and Windows environments. . Provide resource to project initiatives involving VMWare/Unix systems. . Taking full responsibility for stable operation of systems . Capacity and Performance monitoring and management for the VMWare/Unix environment . Liaison with developers, applications support, end user services/project managers Key Skills . Strong understanding of virtualisation principles . ESX installation, configuration and support . Virtual machine creation, cloning, configuration . Cluster configuration . Virtual Centre usage . P2V techniques and tools . Resource pools and management . ESX command line . SAN storage, VMFS, etc . Networking, VLAN . Snapshoting . VI troubleshooting . Performance Analysis and Tuning/Optimisation Operations . Review and/or Problem Resolution Procedures . Windows server administration . Methodical and logical fault finding . Knowledge of SAN Storage particularly EMC . Solaris 8, 9 & 10 . JOB SPECIFICATIONS - DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE Desirable Skills . Linux (RedHat) . Shell and Perl scripting . Capacity and performance monitoring and analysis . IBM Blade servers . Terminal Servers . Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server . NFS, SDS, TCP/IP, IPMP . Knowledge of Sun hardware . Knowledge of vFoglight . Knowledge of CiBRA . Experience of Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Please provide the following information: . Minimum experience (amount and type) . Educational Requirements, if any . Technical and/or Functional skills . Professional licenses, if any . Other skills and abilities Please note that you must separate out essential and desirable criteria within this field. Should be VCP certified with 3 years in-depth VMWare experience with lots of P2V migrations in a large company.
