*Role : **Java Developer*

*Location : **Des Moines, IA*

*Duration : 6+ Months to Hire (CTH)*

*GC and Citizen*


*Position Purpose:*

Identifies, develops, creates, and modifies technical solutions for
enterprise systems designed for consumers, agents, mutuals and employees,
and projects using the IBM portal suite of products with the foundation of
the JAVA language. Works in collaboration with stakeholders and technical
staff to analyze user needs and develop software solutions.



*Job Duties and Responsibilities:*

• Ensures responsive mobile delivery on all solutions using the IBM portal
suite of products with the foundation of the JAVA language focusing on the
user experience



• Documents and monitors technical solution for usability, success and
concerns.  Troubleshoots and makes modifications to ensure high quality.



• Analyzes and understands the business need and desired outcome against
the technology environment to use research to recommend changes and
enhancements desired by end user.



• Collaborates with team members, customers and outside resources to
facilitate understanding of project, produce an efficient and effective
solution, consistently at or ahead of established deadline.



• Collaborates with analysts and quality control staff to ensure there is a
full understanding of requirements prior to, during, and post testing.



• Coaches or mentors others to guide them though specific projects,
policies, procedures and solutions.



• Performs all other duties as assigned.



*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:*



• Bachelors’ degree from an accredited college/university in business
related or technology related field; or equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience.



• Minimum of five years of IT project success required; prefer experience
working in an agile development methodology. ***If no college degree,
candidate must have 2 yrs. of real world Java experience for each year of
college missed or not taken (i.e: 4 yrs of no collge=8 years of real world
experience needed).



• Demonstrated proficiency using JSPs, Servlets, HTML, Java script, IBM
Portal and web services. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of  and REST
web services.



• Advanced knowledge of service-oriented architecture and representational
state transfer themed development.



• Demonstrated proficiency with Data Modeling, Design Patterns, Object
Oriented Concepts, and Design Pattern Techniques are a plus.



• Ability to use and apply unit testing tools / mocking frameworks.



• Possess sound analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
Assignments may be complex in nature and modifications may be broader than
the application itself.  Must have the ability to think creatively and
incorporate current technical solutions with the end user in mind. Assigned
projects may be complex in nature and impact more than one system
application



• Ability to learn and apply new concepts and skills in a just-in-time
environment.  Identifies and applies new knowledge in similar situations
and future assignments.



• Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment to meet
goals and share successes.



• Demonstrated communication skills in both oral and written formats to
increase understanding regardless of audiences, technical abilities or
status within the organization.  Actively listens to gain information,
increase understanding and build relationships.



• Thorough understanding of technology and business.  Ability to apply
knowledge into work product.  Proven ability to analyze technical
information, evaluate products, services and vendors, and make
recommendations based on goals of project and organization.

• Ability to plan and organize time to be successful in environment of
multiple deadlines and interruptions.  Acts with purpose to reduce
redundancies and reworks.

• Ability to work in a harmonious manner with co-employees, agents,
vendors, and supervisor.



• Ability to work with minimum supervision.



• Ability to keep regular work schedule and maintain regular, predictable
attendance.



• Limited travel including an occasional overnight may be required to
attend training session, visit an agent location or vendor location.
  Travel may be heavier or lighter depending on project and training needs.
Driving record must meet and maintain the requirements of the Fleet Safety
policy.



*Supervisor Responsibilities:*

• No supervisory responsibilities assigned.



*Responsibility & Decision Making Authority:*

• The Enterprise Java Developer is responsible for assigned projects from
beginning to completion including attending and actively participating in
project meetings, defining specifications, developing solutions unit
testing and preparing system documentation.



• Responsible for communicating status updates to Enterprise Project
Manager/Coordinator, team members, stakeholders, and supervisor to ensure
information is shared appropriately.



• Responsible for making recommendations to supervisor or mentor based on
knowledge of project and requests from the business unit. Considers
corporate goals and applies knowledge to individual situations.





*Fiscal Responsibility:*

• No direct budgeting or fiscal responsibilities.



• Responsible to work proactively in bringing projects to completion in a
timely manner and fully  utilizing resources to stay within budget.



• Occasionally works with representatives from all areas of the
organization.  Frequently works with team mates in a collaborative project
team environment.



• Frequently works with outside vendors to coordinate seamless integrations
focusing on security and policies.
