*Position : Sr. VMWare Linux Administrator* *Location: Chicago, IL* *Duration: 6+ months * *Interview: Phone then Face to Face* The Linux System Administrator is responsible for designing, implementing, operating, and maintaining Linux systems, servers, and related components to ensure high levels of availability and security of the system. This person will lead in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure Linux system provisioning and maintenance is consistent with organization goals, industry best practices, and security requirements. Additionally, requires candidate to participate in a 24x7 rotational coverage. *Responsibilities:* · Maintain and support software release platforms including redesign, upgrades and day-to-day operations. · Work closely with customers to troubleshoot complex issues. · Provides reliable, efficient, and secure application design and engineering. · Provide documented architectures, engineering designs, and implementation plans of traditional and cloud-based solutions utilizing industry best practices. · Define and document application requirements, architectures, low level designs, and integration plans of data connectivity needs for business critical applications and functions. · Provides proactive process improvement, analysis of best practices, identification and mitigation of application risk. · Effectively works as a teammate and communicates following the escalation process. · Implements application and deployment automation and self-service tools for internal and external customers. · Provide 24/7/365 operational support of the application as well as be part of an on call rotation. · Keeps current with industry standard practices and procedures. · Assist with any other Infrastructure duties and tasks that may be required. *COMPETENCIES: * · Must be technically competent. This includes the ability to troubleshoot and rapidly remediate complex technical problems. · Must have strong customer service skills, an excellent customer service attitude (friendly, cordial) and exhibit good interpersonal skills. · Must have the ability to write clearly, coherently and succinctly to provide immediate and to-the-point communication to company employees, team members, and managers. · Must have the ability to think quickly in high stress situations, effectively evaluate and make decisions and follow through to completion. · Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management, vendors, service providers and consultants. · Must be able to communicate, coordinate and cooperate with team members (in both written and verbal fashion) on ongoing projects. · Must be able to manage time and projects efficiently and effectively. · Must work effectively with team members as needed, guide projects, give assistance, help meet team goals. *QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION: * · A minimum of 3-5 years of experience supporting Linux, · Windows and VMware. Expert hardware/software troubleshooting skills. · High level knowledge and experience in the following areas: patch management, anti-virus suites, clustering, OS upgrades, security and system monitoring. · Strong proficiency in all aspects of Linux operating systems in a mixed environment. · Strong DNS and DHCP skills. Experience architecting and administering Linux servers, scheduling systems, and high-performance storage and networking systems. · Must have firm understanding of Linux internals and have automated system building, patching, and configuration management. · Strong background with automation and orchestration technologies such as Chef, Puppet, GIT, Docker or Ansible required. · Experience with complex networking infrastructure including firewalls, VLANs, and load balancers. · Experience with Shell Scripting/Perl/Python and automation experience is a must. · Strong networking and Windows/Linux inter-operability experience. · Experience with implementing network management, security event log management, intrusion detection and intrusion prevention systems are a plus. · ITIL foundations certified is preferred. · Required experience: 5 years administering Linux, Windows and VMware, Chef, Puppet, GIT, Docker or Ansible. · Required education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
