*Overall Job Purpose*

Responsible for operational support of the Barclay Cards US networking &
security infrastructures. Secondary functions are project management and
analyse and ratify regional engineering efforts. For project management,
candidate needs to complete the necessary tasks on time and within budget
with each given project.



*Key Accountabilities & approximate time split (%)*

complete longest task. Could note key external/internal lateral
relationships)  Network support staff are responsible for:

1.       The day to day resolution of events, Incidents, Problems and
complex changes within the Barclays network estate. Their primary
responsibilities are detailed below.

a.       High priority Incident diagnosis

b.       Repair, Recovery Monitoring and confirmation of Service
Restorations

c.       Management of the Networks Problem Management queue

d.       Problem Management Root Cause Analysis and identification of
options for permanent fixes

e.       Problem identification through Incident management or pro-active
service analysis

f.       Seek to enhance and update their technical capability in line with
current technology trends.

g.       Engage 3rd line support in line with agreed processes

2.       Proactively manage and own the Barclays network estate using
various monitoring tools to provide the 2nd/3rd line support capability for
their area of expertise.

3.       Fix or manage technical escalation to supplier contacts any
network incidents or problems to resolution that are impacting the Barclays
network estate on a 24x7  365 basis (as part of a technical on call rota)

4.       Act as technical acceptance authority for solutions that are to be
deployed into the Barclays live network environment, ensuring that no
design is deployed which contravenes the Barclays policy on security/design
resiliency and manageability.

5.       Ensure that they actively participate in their own development and
contribute to ensuring that their understanding of technology is current in
line with their job description.

6.       Represent the Barclays network operations at technical and
management meetings as required.

7.       Clearly communicate complex technical issues to a wide audience,
including Business owners and senior stake holders.

8.       Be capable of communicating with other technology and business
areas in pursuit of resolving problems and/or reporting progress.

9.       Demonstrate effective communication, both orally and in writing,
with subordinates, colleagues, clients and customers at all levels, both
formally and informally – an experienced communicator who nurtures
relationships for mutual gain

10.     Produce and maintain technical documentation including topology
diagrams  with key Bank services mapped.

11.     Ensure all tasks are documented and completed in a professional and
structured manner.

12.     Good knowledge of the global Network for Barclays Group and
understanding of how key Services map to the network.

13.     Engage in proactively seeking to improve the solutions that the
Networks deliver to the business and acting as technical owner of suggested
improvement where appropriate.

14.     Contribute to technical team meetings providing innovative plans
for improved efficiency to the global network

15.     Provide root cause analysis for complex network issues during
incident management, negotiating change window(s) with business and
technical teams to enable remediation plans to be implemented

16.     Take responsibility and actively contribute to driving service
improvement within the Networks and strive to offer the best level of
available service to our customer base.

17.     Act as technical point of contact internally and externally for
technical queries for their area of expertise

18.     Have the ability to access any existing network device and
review/amend on an as required basis.

19.     Have the ability to identify possible network-affecting situations,
faulty hardware or logical problems.

20.     Using knowledge and available tools identify and resolve network
failures.

21.     Make key decisions in respect to the impact of the fault/change on
users and the existing infrastructure.

22.     Have the ability to coordinate with preferred and 3rd party
suppliers to ensure the rectification of problems/changes.

23.     Be a project lead for network operations and provide network SME
guidance in support of business projects..

24.     Establish relationships across the various Technology organisations
and suppliers and work in a fully collaborative way

25.     Accountable for improving the solutions that Networks deliver to
the business through innovative ideas and creative thinking

26.     Drive service improvement within Networks and deliver the best
level of service to our customer base

27.     Negotiate business and technology priorities in line with demand
and supply

28.     Influence outcomes and strategy amongst stakeholders, including
senior Executives

29.     Accountable for representing Networks in cross-functional
improvement plans and ensure Networks action plans are in place and
fulfilled to achieve the right outcomes

30.     Deliver results which add value to the business stakeholders
through strategic decision-making and improvement plans cost, processes or
technology



Person Specification

(Personal attributes essential to performing role: e.g. skills,
competencies, expertise, knowledge, experience.  Note: experience not to be
time-bound)      •        The candidate should have 5+ years of work
experience, preferably in a medium to large Cisco environment.

•        Extensive knowledge of Cisco Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices,
including ASR and ASA platforms.

•        Extensive knowledge of Layer 2 protocols, including MPLS and
Ethernet.

•        Extensive knowledge of routing protocols, including BGP, EIGRP,
and OSPF.

•        Extensive knowledge of routed protocols, including TCP/IP and SIP

•        Extensive knowledge of VoIP technologies.

•        Extensive knowledge of security devices including Checkpoint
firewalls.

•        Extensive knowledge of global and local load balancing devices,
including F5 configurations, IRULE and VIP/Pools creations.

•        Extensive knowledge of DHCP and DNS implementations.

•        CCNA level certification required or equivalent experience.

•        Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, dynamic
environment

•        Ability to be a project lead for network operations

•        Strong interpersonal skills

•        Ability to display strong sense of urgency
