*Linux System Administrator*
Responsible for the administration and advanced level support of UNIX and
Linux based servers in an enterprise-level, globally based client
environment.
*Responsibilities:- *
- Diagnosing and resolving advanced *UNIX and Linux *related issues
including systems performance, outages, patching and non-repeatable (non
documented) change control.
- Resolving complex *UNIX/Linux *related issues as a member of
quick-response user-support team that will often work under demanding
deadlines and *operate independently to resolve problems. *
- Balancing the big picture with day-to-day activities/issues.
- Persistence and ability to foster a sense of urgency to identify and
overcome obstacles.
- Coordinating with middleware support groups (*Oracle DBA's, Weblogic
Admin's and SAP Basis Admin's*) to increase the quality of service/support
to the end user.
- Developing processes/build documentation for upgrades, new technologies in
Standard Operating Procedure (*SOP*) format.
- Coordinating with *Level 1 **UNIX/Linux Systems Administrators* to ensure
*SOP* adherence.
- Developing shell scripts to automate administrative tasks.
- Exploring new technologies that may be used to enhance or replace existing
services.
- Participating in an *on-call rotation. *
- Core hours are 8AM - 5PM Monday - Friday.
- On call is from 5PM to 8PM Monday - Friday and some weekends.
*Required Experience:- *
- *5+ years experience with Linux administration *in an enterprise-level
client environment.
- For comparison - at current our environment *supports about 900 Linux
servers.*
- Experience working with servers in a SAN environment.
- Experience developing shell scripts and automating jobs in the *UNIX/Linux
environment.*
- Experience with *NFS servers and/or NAS solutions.*
- Excellent English verbal and written communications skills.
*Desired Experience:- *
- Autosys scheduling and support experience
- Experience with *HP-UX, Solaris and AIX*
- Experience with monitoring software, ideally *BMC Patrol and BMC
BladeLogic*
- Bachelor's degree.
