*Linux Administrator*

*Location: Redlands, CA*

*Duration: 6 month+*

Required skills

·         Candidate must have strong inter-personal and communication
skills.

·         Candidate requires a strong Unix/Linux background and a good
understanding of Windows OS with an ability to use most Unix/Linux/Windows
commands/utilities.

·         Experience with most basic system administration tools and
processes; for example, can boot/shutdown a machine, add and remove user
accounts, use backup programs and fsck, maintain system database files
(groups, hosts, aliases).

·         Familiar with using common Unix/Linux tools such as netstat,
iostat, ps, top and can perform troubleshooting and system tuning.

·         Fundamental understanding of a Unix/Linux -based operating system;
for example, understand job control, soft and hard links, distinctions
between the kernel and the shell.

·         Windows skills should include understanding of DHCP, DNS, and
Active Directory. Familiar with setting up web services.

·         Ability to write system documentation and detailed technical and
or functional specifications.

·         Basic understanding of securing computer systems.

Required background:

·         4 years of college degree with specialized course work in the
computer area

·         Minimum of 5 years experience supporting Unix/Linux and Windows
servers in a network environment

·         Knowledge of Java (Tomcat/JBoss/etc), and Apache

Desirable:

·         Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Perl,
Python and/or shell scripts).

·         Red Hat Certified Tech/Engineer (RHCT or RHCE)

·         Programming experience in any applicable language.

·         Familiarity with networked/distributed computing environment
concepts; for example, can use the route command, add a workstation to a
network, and mount remote file system.

·         Administers a small site alone or assists in the administration of
a larger site.

·         Administers and maintain web sites both internal and external
facing.

·         Familiarity with configuration management systems such as
CfEngine, Puppet, or an equivalent system

Appropriate responsibilities:

·         Works under the general supervision of a senior system
administrator.

·         Web Server administration.

·         Handle departmental technical projects to completion.

·         Provide day to day support for trouble shooting applications as
needed.

·         Install OS for UNIX/Linux and Windows.
