*POSITION SUMMARY: *

*The position of Systems Engineer is responsible for assisting in the
design, implementation, and validation of the Windows 2000 / 2003 / 2008
Server infrastructure. The Systems Engineer shares responsibility for all
Windows servers, server-side software, and infrastructure equipment.  This
includes, among other things infrastructure planning, system monitoring,
contingency planning, security, performance tuning, software distribution,
mainframe connectivity, Internet connectivity, and production support. *

*This individual also serves as an interface to the Application Development
team for troubleshooting potential hardware problems.*

* *

*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: *

*THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL, BASIC AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE
POSITION. THESE FUNCTIONS ARE NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS AN *

*EXHAUSTIVE LIST OF ALL RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, AND SKILLS REQUIRED.*

*Provides 2nd and 3rd  level support to Service Desk and other staff,
troubleshoots problems, answers hardware and software questions, and
provides technical assistance*

*Coordinate and implement numerous large and small scale technical
projects, assisting in the creation of strategic and long term planning,
and participating in a 24x7x365 on-call support rotation.*

*Shares responsibility for all Windows servers, server-side software, and
infrastructure equipment.*

*Shares responsibility for infrastructure planning, system monitoring,
contingency planning, security, performance tuning, software distribution,
mainframe connectivity, Internet connectivity, and production support.*

*Serves as an interface to the Application Development team for
troubleshooting potential hardware problems.*

*Configures, deploys and redeploys servers and related equipment*

*Creates documentation of server systems, operational procedures, topology,
and hardware / software inventory *

*Maintains and coordinates servicing of all network connected servers and
peripherals*

*Provides one-on-one technical training with team members and other users,
as needed*

*Maintains a good working knowledge of all Corporation owned hardware and
software*

*Maintains asset records*

*Documents problem resolutions into the appropriate systems*

*Deals effectively with people and clearly communicates verbally and in
writing*

*Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves system and user problems*

*Plans, organizes and coordinates work assignments and prioritizes workload*

*Provides customer service via telephone and interpersonal contact*

*Provides backup coverage for the Sr. Systems Engineers, if needed*

*Rapidly deploys fixes to systems in response to newly identified stability
and security threats *

*Participates in software license tracking and purchasing*

*Performs other duties as assigned that may or may not be position related*

*REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: *

*Knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000 / 2003 / 2008 Server Operating Systems*

*Ability to leverage a thorough understanding of the interactions between
systems to not only troubleshoot problems, but also identify
performance-tuning opportunities*

*Knowledge of Microsoft systems including, Active Directory and Exchange*

*Knowledge of Microsoft best practice for design of Active Directory and
Exchange*

*Knowledge of daily Windows server administration, including system
stability, integrity, and troubleshooting *

*Proficiency in upgrading of software and hardware, planning and roll out
of servers *

*Proficiency in backup integrity and recovery coordination along with
disaster preparedness planning *

*Knowledge of LAN protocols including DHCP, DNS, WINS*

*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and professional
appearance*

*Self motivated, with the ability to work in both a team environment and
individually *

*Knowledge of the relevant computer systems, applications and equipment to
provide customer support of technical terminology, concepts and
applications *

*Ability to understand and comply to the relevant department and/or
corporate policies, procedures and guidelines as they pertain to customer
support *

*Knowledge of relevant commonly-used concepts, best practices, and
procedures *

*Knowledge of local and remote computer system diagnostic tools*

*Proficiency with current versions of  Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint*

*Certification as a 2003 MCSA(Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator)*

*Completed 50% of course work towards certification as a Windows 2003 or
greater MCSE(Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)*

* *

*REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: *

*4 year degree in Information Technology or equivalent combination of
education, and experience. *

*2 or more years experience as a Windows 2000 / 2003 Systems Administrator *

*1 or more years experience in  Windows 2000 / 2003 Systems Engineering*

*2 or more years experience in leading projects*

*Experience in Windows 2000 / 2003 Active Directory design, group policies,
and domain maintenance.*

*PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

*Knowledge and understanding of ITIL*

*Insurance Industry experience*

*Current certification as; or working towards certification as:*

*VMWare Certified Professional*

*Citrix Certified Administrator*
