*Mainframe Developer Job Purpose:* Creates user information solutions by
developing, implementing, and maintaining COBOL/CICS based interfaces and
JCL batch components using DB2 databases.

*Mainframe Developer Job Duties:*

   - Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining complex or
   moderately complex COBOL/CICS-based administrative information systems
   serving the entire UCSD campus. Assist campus departments with data
   integration to the payroll and/or financial systems .
   - Project emphasis is on the development and enhancement of complex
   computer systems implemented on a wide support base, including COBOL/JCL
   batch jobs using both DB2 data tables and flat files, COBOL/CICS user
   interface screens, SOAP cross-platform webservices.  Specific functional
   concentration is in the area of PPS (Payroll) and IFIS (Financial System).
   - Technical knowledge of current IBM mainframe hardware and support
   software, including MVS, IBM DB2, SOA interfaces.
   - Experience with software debugging tools such as Expeditor or IBM
   debugger.
   - Experience with batch/online utilities such as FileAid, AbendAid,
   FileManager.
   - Defines site objectives by analyzing user requirements; envisioning
   system features and functionality.
   - Designs and develops system interfaces with peripheral systems managed
   by other IT groups on campus.
   - Facilitates integrated design with other technical staff and conducts
   integration tests.
   - Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages
   of new code development vs modification and retrofitting of existing system
   code.
   - Completes applications development by coordinating requirements,
   schedules, and activities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting
   development and production problems across multiple environments and
   operating platforms.
   - Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools.
   - Enhances organization reputation by accepting ownership for
   accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add
   value to job accomplishments.
   - Regularly meet with functional customers and committees. Support
   installation and testing of complex software.
   - Computing is performed in a large computer center consisting of Unix
   and IBM servers and mainframes.

*Skills/Qualifications:* COBOL, CICS, JCL Programming Skills, DB2 database
experience, SQL, XML, SOAP web-service experience (preferred),  TSO/ISPF,
IBM Mainframe MVS, FileAid/FileManager, Expeditor/IBM Debugger, Teamwork,
Verbal Communication, Software Requirements, Software Development Process,
Software Debugging.
