Duration:  3 months

We are currently seeking a Unix/Linux Engineer for one of our clients
in *Philadelphia,
PA*. This is a GREAT opportunity to work for one of the Top 20 Biggest
Public Companies in the World. We invite you to review the positions

an 3 month project.

Responsibilities and Duties
• Provide second level support to resolve customer facing issues and
application access problems.
• Work with the Product Management and Development teams to understand the
functionality of new product releases.
• Work with application performance testing and monitoring team to build
and enhance monitoring tools.
• Produce alerts/alarms, and post mortem reports when there’s a production
support issue.
• Be the single point of contact during production issues.
• Independently and collaboratively troubleshoot and resolve application,
infrastructure errors, performance and scalability issues
• Ability to provide risk assessments in supporting new projects
Required Skills
• Strong UNIX / Linux skills with at least 5 years experience as a system
administrator or application support engineer.
• Strong working knowledge of Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat administration
skills with at least 2 years experience. Comfortable and experienced in
looking at logs when troubleshooting.
• Experience with Java or Struts applications including shell scripting and
perl.
• Solid understanding of Internet and networking technologies such as TCP /
IP protocols, DNS, HTTP protocol, firewalls and proxy servers.
• Familiar with SQL and DB Oracle or MySQL.
• Strong analytical, interpersonal and communications skills.
• Ability to multi-task with regular interruptions and collaborate with
various teams within the company to complete a project or resolve an issue.
• Understanding of multi-tiered web application architecture.
• Ability to demonstrate creative thinking, advanced problem solving and
troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Flexible and easily adaptable to change.
Desired Skills
• Experience with FastSearch search engine.
• Experience using Thomson Scientific web applications such as Web of
Knowledge, Thomson Pharma or Thomson Innovation.
• Library industry experience is a plus.
Experience
• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, MIS, Library Science or
Information Science or scientific subject area, or equivalent work
experience.

Skills:
 Strong UNIX / Linux skills with experience as a system administrator or
application support engineer, Familiar with SQL and DB Oracle or MySQL.
Strong working knowledge of Apache HTTP server
