In addition to knowledge of PowerBuilder, the person needs to be very familiar with SQL scripting for both Sybase and SQL Server. We have a couple of dozen applications that need to be migrated – we have a tool called SSMA (SQL Server Migration Assistant) that we will be using, it migrates the data and stored procedures. However, some of the old PowerBuilder applications have the SQL embedded in the code, this would have to be modified, or pulled out into a stored procedure. The other tricky part is Sybase allowed an outer join syntax using ‘*=’ or ‘=*’, which is not supported in SQL Server – that will have to be replaced in any stored procedures (SSMA will fail with those) or embedded code.
