ENVIRONMENT: Model validation and model risk is one of two hot topics in banking right now. We are building a framework from the ground-up, and it has gotten a lot of scrutiny from regulators and board members. Senior management is very interested. PROJECT: We need to do updated procedures for validation and model development. We have existing procedures that are very dated and don’t match current environment. We either need to update existing procedures or scrap or start from scratch. DUTIES: Talk to SMEs (Subject Matter Experts- validators) to understand the process and kind of things they look at for each validation and type of model. Pull it all together to create a cohesive document that will be the standard followed for each type of validation. EXPERIENCE Somebody who’s written procedures; knows the difference between policy and procedures; has experience dealing with subject matter experts; knows how to ask appropriate questions; and can translate information into a technical document. **It would be helpful to broadly understand finance or risk but not necessary.
