*Overview:*
The Cognos developer will provide key OLAP support, ad-hoc reporting,
decision support and database analysis for existing and new requirements
resulting from changes and enhancements made to a PeopleSoft 8.9 HR,
Payroll, and ELM implementation. In conjunction with the implementation
team this resource will be responsible for gathering reporting requirements,
designing reports, building cubes, and implementing the designs for the
users. They will work with client representatives and development manager to
translate the clients' requirements from preliminary designs into sensible
business solutions. Additional responsibilities include technical
documentation, testing, research & development, and some production
support.
Modifications and changes will also be required to respond to changes in the
PeopleSoft application and data architecture. The client environment is a
large telecommunications organization undergoing a consolidation of numerous
PeopleSoft HR \ Payroll instances resulting from mergers and
acquisitions. The Cognos developer will work in various teams and with a
development manager but will need to have the ability to work independently
and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines.
*Daily Responsibilities:*
- Design and develop complex transformations, job streams, batch
processes for large data sets using Cognos based on Peoplesoft 8.9 H.R,
Payroll and ELM
- Multi-user development environment and data updates using Cognos & DTS
packages
- Design, development, test and maintain the Cognos metadata layer and
Cognos reports
- Test and debug Cognos metadata layer and reports
- Work with business end users to assist them in defining reports,
creating reports and ad hoc queries
- Assist in end user acceptance testing
- Research and resolve Cognos technical issues
- Partner with the Data Warehouse Architect to ensure the data model
supports the reporting requirements
- Analyze, design, and implement various data interfaces between Cognos,
PeopleSoft and external systems through the using various components and
applications within Peoplesoft and Cognos architecture as well as
3rdparty development tools
- Documentation of all analysis, design, and implementation of new
enhancements or HR \ Payroll modifications
- Identify, report, and escalate project risks
- Report on progress of all development and deliverables
- Ability to manage change during the development cycle
- Participate in problem solving sessions
- Participate in team meetings and planning sessions
*Qualifications:*
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
- Minimum of 1 year of Cognos Report Net developer (version 7.x or
higher) experience
- Minimum of 2 years of strong SQL reporting experience combined with
Oracle database experience
- Minimum of 1 year of PL\SQL experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Unix and Oracle performance tuning
- SQR or PL/SQL programming experience
- Demonstrates data modeling concepts and experience
- Demonstrates understanding of OLAP concepts
- Demonstrates strong analytical, problem solving, and debugging skills.
- Demonstrates high-level of written and oral communication in the
English language
- Demonstrates efficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Access, Project, Visio
*Preferred:*
- Minimum of 1year of functional experience with PeopleSoft HR and
Payroll data structures
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the PeopleSoft 8.x systems
architecture as deployed in a UNIX/Oracle environment required.
- Exhibits knowledge of SDLC Methodology (Rational, RUP or Other)
- Exhibits the ability and tenacity to resolve open issues
- Efficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access,
Project, Visio)
- Fortune 500 or telecom experience
- Prior technical or management consulting experience
