Title: Database Engineer/Administrator Location: Reston, VA Duration: 1+ year
The HCTC Database Engineer/Administrator must have solid experience designing, building, tuning and maintaining SQL Server 2005/2008 systems. Among the skills required by HCTC are the following: • SQL Server o Install/configure Clustered SQL Server 2005/2008 o Must be capable of estimating storage needs/projected growth of new application databases o Define SAN storage configuration requirements (number of drives, RAID level, etc.) o Define/manage Logins in Mixed authentication mode • Auditing o Must be able to configure SQL Server to support custom C2 auditing requirements § HCTC does not use out of the box C2 auditing • Must be able to configure SQL Server 2005 Trace for C2 • Must be able to configure SQL Server 2008 Audit o Server Audit Specifications o Database Audit Specifications • Must be able to generate ad-hoc reports on C2 Auditing events • T-SQL o Must be able to design/troubleshoot stored procedures/queries beyond simple CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Delete). o Must understand impact of queries on TEMPDB sizing. For example: § MERGE (SQL Server 2008) • The MERGE statement makes heavy use of TEMPDB and can cause it to grow beyond available storage § Correlated sub-queries w/Aggregate functions • When sub-queries contain aggregate functions (SUM, COUNT, etc) SQL Server creates temp tables in TEMPDB for each outer record • Power Shell o Must be able to design/troubleshoot PowerShell scripts with special focus on scripts targeted at SQLPS, the PowerShell micro shell used by SQL Server. o SMO (SQL Server Management Objects) § Ability to invoke/use .NET SMO objects in script o Must be able to troubleshoot PowerShell script in SQL Server Agent Jobs in SQL Server 2008 • SSIS o Must be able to install/configure SSIS o Must be able to create/troubleshoot/deploy SQL Server Integration Services packages. § Must understand configuration and logging § Must be able to go beyond basic functionality created by Import/ Export wizard • Use of variables • Ability to capture/use stored procedure return values. • SSRS o Install/configure SSRS in both SharePoint and stand-alone configurations. o Must be able to create/troubleshoot/deploy SQL Server Reporting Services reports.
