SQL Database Administrator:

Job location (City, State) - Reading, PA

Start date - Immediate

No. of positions - 1

Duration – 6 months





Job Description:

                Position will assist in the following areas:

1.) DBA will assist in configuring the new environment(SQL 2008, SQL 2005)
from the ground up including helping develop maintenance procedures, backup
scripts, and policies.  Also as part of migrating new databases to this new
environment, this person will be responsible for analyzing and documenting
database application touch points and reviewing applications for
improvements.

2) DBA will be responsible for migration of existing SQL 2000 and SQL 2005
databases into this new SQL 2008 environment.  This may include migration of
legacy DTS packages to SSIS packages.

3) DBA will be responsible for coordinating with the various members of the
IT department to accomplish the defined project milestones and provide
timely updates to management.

Required General Skills:



•             Excellent communication skills.

•             The ability to research, document, map, and maintain data and
database dependencies within the enterprise.

•             Ability to perform database application reviews for
inefficient database code

•             Reviewing and assisting in the creation of Data Models

•             Know enough about various programming languages (Java, C++,
etc) to be able to assist in the troubleshooting of database related
applications.

•             Ability to work with the development staff to fully understand
their database needs.

•             Establishing and documenting Backup Policies and procedures

•             Server tuning and Configuration (Assisting the system
administrators with getting the most out of the DB servers).





Beneficial General Skills:

•             Assisting in the creation of database development standards
and practices

•             Server tuning and Configuration (Assisting the system
administrators with getting the most out of the DB servers).

•             Extensive knowledge of how SQL Server operates using an EMC
Disk array, including suggesting disk layouts and utilizing some of the EMC
performance tools.

•             Ability to research and identify unused database objects and
work to remove them.





Required SQL Server Skills:

•             SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 General Administration and
migration best practices.

•             Extensive Knowledge on SQL Clustering

•             SQL Server Disaster Recovery (Backups) & SQL Replication
(Including Merge Replication)

•             Must have knowledge of how to create new ODBC linked servers
in the new environment to DB2 and Oracle.

•             Locking identification and resolution

•             Named instance setup and configuration

•             SQL Server & Windows monitoring

•             Identifying Performance problems within SQL Server and working
to fix them

•             Applying service packs in a clustered environment

•             Broad understanding of T-SQL and internal SQL procedures

•             Building and Maintaining DTS and SSIS Packages

•             Configuration, Administration, and Troubleshooting of Analysis
Services

•             Configuration, Administration, and Troubleshooting of
Reporting Services

•             Windows 2008 Monitoring



Preferred Skills

•             Knowledge of DB2 on AS400
