*NEED 2 PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES FROM THEIR PROJECTS* *Role: SQL Server DBA (must have large enterprise experience, global is best). Location: Houston, TX (Wertheimer)* *Need this person to be able to interview face to face.* *Duration:: 6 months engagement minimum* This is a role in the Global IT organisation, fulfilling the position of Database Administrator for Global IT. The Database Administrator is responsible for performing database installations, upgrades, performance analysis, and configurations for server database products in Global IT. Additionally, this position is responsible for providing value to the BG business by developing database solutions in support of all Global IT supported applications and systems. *Organizational Structure:* Depending on where the resource is located, the database administrator will have a daily reporting relationship to the Architecture Products (UK) or the Database Services Manager (US). However, those database administrators not located in the US will have a dotted line to the Database Services manager located in the US. The Database Administrator has a peer relationship with: Other Database Administrators (DBAs) Integration Product Developers *Key Accountabilities:* Perform core database administration functions such as: Perform database engine installation, start-up, shutdown, and recovery tasks Perform database user administration and enforce database security parameters Perform database networking configuration and administration Perform database capacity planning and storage administration Provide advanced scripting techniques to automate processes and/or to troubleshoot developers code to provide for database queries Performance tune and optimize database components (database and application servers if applicable) Provide troubleshooting and issue resolution for all database components Perform database performance analysis, reporting, and configuration Participate with the design of stress, interoperability, integration and performance tests for new applications. Determine and enforce recommended (database) deployment, configuration, and setup methodologies for all database instances at BG Group Participate in overall technical strategy as it relates to expansion and growth of the database footprint Participate in testing efforts pertaining to database schemas including migrations during upgrades Work to ensure maximum availability (99.9%) of all databases Install, administrate and support all database application server environments, if applicable Own and support the backup/recovery strategy, and also design and implement disaster recovery and high availability solutions Perform database and application software/patches in all database environments as needed Uphold all database security and change management guidelines, in accordance with SOX regulations and internal policies Develop database solutions that support business applications required by business: Analyze and translate business needs and opportunities into written database systems requirements. Identify and define innovative data management approaches in support of strategic business objectives. Perform maintenance and implement enhancements to current inventory of database-based solutions. Three Month Horizon: Make contributions to the support of the Architecture Products & Database Admin team in the Global IT organisation Make contributions to the design of products, from a database perspective, in the Global IT organisation Make contributions to align the database design methodology in the Global IT organisation to best practices * Experience Needed:* Incumbent should have the following professional experience: Experience in supporting and troubleshooting databases, in compliance with architecture standards Experience developing SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) packages for ETL activities Knowledge, Languages, Skills and Attributes: *Education:* Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred Minimum 5 years experience as a database administrator, with expert experience in current Oracle Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS technologies (2005, 2008 Standard and Enterprise9i, 10g, 11g). Oracle Microsoft Certification (MCDBA) preferred. *Candidates should also have the following professional skills for this role:* Expert in Oracle SQL Server database administrator functions, including performance tuning, DB backup and recovery (RMAN), capacity planning, replication, high availability (Data Guard), monitoring using Grid ControlSQL Server Management Studio or custom scripts, build/creation of databases Expert knowledge of SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) package development for ETL activities.
