Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

Server/Network Administration
Administer and maintain the Windows Active Directory (AD) domain
environment and related components and services at the College. AD
components and services include, but are not limited to, Domain Controllers
(DC), Domain Name System (DNS), license Key Management Server (KMS), Global
Catalog servers (GC), Flexible Single Master Operation (FSMO) Roles in AD,
AD Trusts with other domains, etc.

Manage security policies using Group Policy settings and preferences in
Active Directory; implement new Group Policy Objects (GPOs) as needed.

Configure and setup servers, storage systems and databases according to
ongoing requirements of the College.

Maintain healthy server operations and check server hardware regularly;
remediate faulty/failing hardware immediately.

Implement security and patching/updates on servers during frequent update
cycles.

Manage the new VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure; convert physical
servers to the virtual environment as much as possible.

Maintain existing SQL databases and ensure SQL servers are operating at
optimum performance.

Support new and current users of the Active Directory and Exchange email
system; establish user access (local and VPN) based on needs.

Manage the iSCSI Storage Area Network (SAN) and related network switches
and storage arrays.

Administer mobile devices using the Mobile Device Management (MDM) server;
manage the secure remote access portal (Stoneware webNetwork) system.


Deploy software packages and Windows Updates to end-user computers using
group policy scripting, software deployment appliances (Dell Kace) and
Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

Manage backup and restoration of data, offsite tape storage and tape
library operations. Manage backup tapes encryption. Remediate back up
problems related to data storage in a timely fashion.

Monitor network performance and adjust software and equipment according to
findings.

Research/Planning/Analysis

Research and analyze the requirements of new server hardware, new
applications or expanded databases for planning added server/storage
capacity.

Participate in planning and designing of long term data storage and server
capacity needs.

Perform auditing of systems, software applications and databases as and
when required.

Research new methods of improving existing servers and systems; implement
better processes and methodologies aimed at making existing operations more
efficient.

Participate in special committees and projects (campus level) as assigned
and perform related duties.

Maintain ongoing relationships and liaise with third-party vendors for
technical issues resolution.

Policy Compliance/Reporting

Ensure security and compliance of IT systems with established College IT
policies.

Collaborate with Director of IT in ongoing development of IT policies;
interpret policy definitions and implement accordingly.

Participate in developing Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
processes and methodologies.

Participate in regular IT system audits and ensure ongoing compliance;
furnish reports as per audit and/or departmental requirements.

Training/Staff Management

Supervise graduate student employees, website administrators and helpdesk
staff. Review work of staff to ensure department objectives are met.

Train and develop staff regularly to ensure staff is able to meet
department objectives.

Serve as a technical resource for helpdesk issues resolution and provide
backup assistance to helpdesk operations as required.

Provide technical support and training (by phone and in person) to all
faculty, staff and students of the college as need arises.

Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience

Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or
other related field required (Masters preferred) and the following
certification/speciality is required: Network Administration; defined as
designs, operates and maintains Local Area Network, including installation
of computers and workstations on the network, installing hardware and
software upgrades, maintaining and monitoring the system to provide optimal
quality to the end-users. Conducts feasibility studies on communication
systems and prepares specifications and flowcharts for implementing new
programs or modification to vendor software. Designs fully integrated
systems which may include applications, databases, networks, and related
systems. Recommends modifications to third party software to meet user
needs; MCSA Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate and five years
experience.

Additionally, the following preferred qualifications were determined by the
employer for this position:

Strong technical understanding of Microsoft Server Operating Systems
(2003/2008 R2).

Solid knowledge of Kerberos authentication and directory systems (LDAP,
Active Directory), DNS systems, FSMO roles, SSL certificates required.

Proficiency in managing a virtual infrastructure (VMware vSphere/vCenter
4.1, ESXi 4.1 and higher) and clear understanding of virtualization
concepts required.

Clear understanding of networking theory, TCP/IP network operations, Open
System Interconnection (OSI) model required.

Solid knowledge of Windows Clustering technologies, experience with
managing Windows based server clusters required.

Thorough understanding of Parallel Computing concepts, Redundant Disk Array
systems (RAID), Storage Area Networks (SAN) required; experience managing
iSCSI storage subsystems required
