Position Description

The *Network Management Tools Systems Engineer* provides support for the
Fault, Performance and Configuration tool platforms used to run a very high
performance global enterprise network.

·Job Description

–This is a hands-on role supporting technical network management systems
used to manage and monitor high performance enterprise networks.  The role
will call on a mixture of network expertise, industry tools systems'
familiarity, sysadmin capabilities, and basic-to-intermediate scripting
skills.

–In addition to undertaking technical support duties, the successful
candidate will be expected to embody elements of teacher, advocate and
go-to-guru for the user community.  Ensuring the user community appreciate
the full breadth of toolset capabilities and are equipped to use those
capabilities is an important element of the job.  Applicants should be
prepared to immerse him/herself in the operations environment to deeply
understand the challenges and then use that insight to guide priority
setting.

·Core Objectives of the job

–To ensure that the tools used by the Network Operations teams are
reliable, defect free, well understood by their users, and optimally tuned
to enhance network support capabilities.

·Required Experience:

–Broad industry knowledge and an excellent basis of network technology
fundamentals are required – this is a truly global and very large network
that will present challenges for the best and brightest candidates.  8yrs
network operations is the minimum acceptable level of experience.

–Prior experience working in a network operations center (NOC) is expected,
as the candidate will be expected to be able to relate to the technical
challenges and information needs of those working in the NOC.

–Experience designing and troubleshooting operational processes.

·Responsibilities

–Day to day health checking, fault resolution and preventative maintenance
across a suite of operational toolsystems

–Tuning of tool performance (alert volumes and severities, database
pruning/indexing etc)

–Track and manage issues escalated to Engineering and vendor resources to
ensure fastest possible turnaround on fixes and enhancements

–Evaluate operational teams’ use of tools and suggest improvements to
improve responsiveness and quality

–Train users in the efficient use of the whole tool suite bridging
Service Center tools and Account Specific tools together.  Educate users in
the full breadth of their capabilities at their disposal; use
over-the-shoulder, focus-groups, formal training styles as appropriate.

–Drive process compliance through Regional and Global teams (matrix
management) to ensure inventory and tool standards are maintained

Business Skills (Required of all applicants)

Expert in the use of Desktop Office products, particularly Excel

Excellent written and spoken English

Structured, logical approach to troubleshooting
