Position Summary
The SQL Server Database Developer will design and develop a database
application to house Local Vendor Contract (LVC) related content, including
contracts and sales tracings. The function will also configure the database
to provide reports which will be used by management to monitor LVC activity
and guide key business decisions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Design and develop the LVC database based on established requirements,
including modifying any existing SQL database structure as necessary
Develop proactive working relationships with Commercial and SSC Finance
organizations in order to determine business and functional requirements
and identify solutions to resolve needs
Provide architectural/database technical expertise to team concerning
methods, procedures, and standards to be used during design and development
phases
Maintain application performance and scalability; focus on performance
tuning SQL queries, table design, indexing, query plan analysis and SQL
refactoring
Develop technical documentation and operational procedures for areas of
responsibility
Create test plans, test data sets and automated testing to ensure all
components of the system meet specifications
Investigate and fix defects; pre and post-release
Prepare and deploy complex schema updates, data migration and ETL scripts
Enroll users and design system security
Allocate system storage and plan future storage requirements for the
database
Provide technical consulting and respond to error reports, problems and/or
questions
Plan for backup and recovery of database information
Follow and contribute to team standards and utilize industry best practices
Key Position Competencies
5+ years of designing databases using Microsoft SQL Server in a
professional team environment
Expert in SQL database development ('05 & '08)
Hands-on experience creating all key database objects Tables, Views,
Triggers, Indices, Stored Procedures, User Defined Functions, Dynamic SQL
Ability to troubleshoot/resolve complex database issues
Strong database performance tuning experience in a RDBMS environment
Strong general ETL / data integration experience
Proficient in database modeling & design with a focus on performance and
scalability
Experience developing/managing large-scale databases
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to achieve results within
tight deadlines
Strong customer service orientation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) or Microsoft Certified
Solutions Expert (MCSE)
