*Job Title* Cognos Programmer *Project Location* Columbus OH *Duration* 6 months /Contract * NEED LOCAL WHO CAN DO FACE2FACE* * Skills Required and Job Description:* The Cognos developer will be primarily involved in developing reports using Cognos Report Studio,and performing Unit testing. They will collaborate with framework modelers, data analysts, business analysts, testing specialists, and business customers to create business reports that are accurate, reliable, attractive, timely, and relevant. During a given day, this position will be expected to: - Design and develop complex Report Studio objects (e.g. Active Reports, complex conditional formatting, and complex hierarchical development within list frames) based upon report specifications - Unit test developed reports and verify results against specifications - Serve as a reporting expert as needed during user and systems testing - Identify and document any inconsistencies between data model and report specifications - Identify and document any software issues encountered - Document functional specifications, technical specifications and unit testing requirements as assigned - Use Cognos and Oracle software and tools to perform required tasks - Perform knowledge transfer to BWC staff - SKILLS (mandatory and desirable) with years of experience if applicable Mandatory Skills: - 8 or more years of experience with SQL programming against an Oracle RDBMS on data warehouse or business intelligence projects. - 7 or more years of experience with business intelligence tools including IBM Cognos - 5 or more years of experience with development and support using dimensional/star-schema based data structures including fact tables (commonly referred to as Kimball). - 4 years or more experience designing and developing Cognos (version 8.2 and above) reports using Cognos Report Studio, Analysis Studio and Active Reports Desired Skills: - Proficiency with Cognos 10.2 and Workspace Advance features - Software development experience with Oracle RDBMS 11g - Software development experience with IBM DB2 SQL - Experience with HTML and JavaScript, as used for Cognos reporting - Experience writing design specifications, test scripts and other required documentation - Experience developing queries against normalized as well as dimensional data structures - Experience establishing standards based on industry best practices - Knowledge of property and casualty insurance systems - Knowledge of Ohio BWC business model and processes - Experience using Oracle SQL*Plus, Toad, Oracle SQL Developer - Experience in measuring and tuning the performance of Oracle data warehouse SQL queries - Skill in the use of organizational tools & methods (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Clarity) - Experience performing peer reviews - Ability to effectively communicate with business and IT staff - Ability to quickly adapt to changes, enhancements, and new technologies - Ability to establish and maintain positive collaborative relationships with team members Awarded contractor must undergo a drug screening and complete and thorough background check at the Contractor’s expense.
