Description
Contract position for SQL Server Database Application DBA
Essential job functions for a successful SQL Server Database Application
DBA:
Work closely with multiple project stakeholders to ensure quality project
delivery including but not limited to project technical lead, solutions
architects and business end users as appropriate. Serve as the key liaison
with the solutions architects, DBA team, and other development groups.
Provide database architecture and design support for multiple projects
Review data model specifications and parameters that are in compliance with
information model blueprints.
Review logical and physical data models for solutions supporting the
reporting and analysis requirements of key program stakeholders. Design
physical model for performance (de-normalize; add indexes)
Provide project SQL Server DBA support for multiple projects (ie SQL Server
installations, performance tuning, security guidelines, add users, backup
test, and etc.)
Develop system performance plans, refine physical designs for performance,
and perform tuning activities for implemented solutions.
Writing PL/SQL code (stored procedures, triggers, database scripts) to
implement business logic and database maintenance.
Develop standards for developing SQL code and work close with the
development team to analyze SQL code and ensure compliance with standards
Work with DBA team to ensure compliance with database, SQL, security, and
configurations standards,
Work effectively as part of a team to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
Establish a sense of urgency to complete tasks in a timely, cost-effective
manner with quality.
Maintain an exceptional level of customer focus and maintain an inspired
culture that is time based and centered on integrity and customer focus.
Produce technical documentation in support of SQL Standards.
Specific Skills Needed:
-A thorough understanding of SQL Server 2005 & 20087, Disk Mirroring,
Replication, Log Shipping and other high availability solutions
-A strong understanding of performance monitoring and optimization
techniques, indexes, constraints, transactions, file groups, stored
procedures, full text searching, triggers, cursors, locking, and queue
tuning.
-The ability to plan, test, and implement the safe modification of a
production database environment during software upgrade cycles.
-A strong understanding of backup and disaster recovery techniques.
-Knowledge of storage technologies including RAID, SANs, etc.
-Strong understanding of database replication.
-Able to organize, prioritize, and manage personal workload and projects
with minimal supervision.
-Team leadership and coaching skills.
-Strong interpersonal communication skills.
-BS degree in CS or equivalent required.
-SQL Server Certifications (highly desirable).
