- Experience with remote APIs and/or SOA
- Working knowledge of different types of remote procedure calls and
their pros/cons
- XML-RPC
- HTTP REST

- Working knowledge of data serialization formats and their pros/cons
- XML
- JSON
- Google's protobuf
- Apache Avro
- ASN.1
- etc.
- Very Strong-Expert knowledge of concurrent programming and parallelism
- Threading, actors, CSP, etc.
- Blocking vs. non-blocking, async I/O
