Key to Job/Special Instructions: Description: The Senior DBA will be a senior member of a 5 person database architecture and reporting team that is responsible for the data model design, overseeing the coding, and administration of client's SQL Server databases for its nation-wide distributed operations. Develop database best practices and recommend architectural solutions to application development teams and management. *Key Responsibilities:* Work collaboratively with development, QA, server, and support teams, both on-site and offshore, throughout the SDLC. Review database code to ensure that database best practices are adhered to while meeting the business driven functionality requirements of the application. Meet with project managers, business analysts and leaders to gain understanding of business objectives and ensure that business needs are achieved. Take ownership of the database environments by proactively monitoring SQL Server system performance in development, QA, staging, stress test, and production environments. Manage resource utilization of SQL Server resources. Troubleshoot issues that fall outside normal performance metrics. Use production performance statistics as feedback into the development and testing cycles to better tune the database for future releases of the application. Establish and maintain communication with teams within the IT department while working through a production issue to its resolution. Support off-hours production releases and respond to SQL Server service alerts while on on-call rotation. Work with server engineers in a remotely hosted production environment to maintain patching levels and appropriate server configuration to run servers in a highly available and secure manner. Install SQL Server instances configure appropriate high availability options. Configure new servers to have required maintenance jobs installed and ensure proper monitoring of server performance. Maintain disaster recover environment. Prioritize tasks effectively, so you can operate in timely yet professional manner. Provide accurate status updates to management. Innovate by routinely looking for ways to improve processes for administering or implementing database technology. Read and keep up on new emerging technologies. *Key Qualifications:* Extremely conversant and thorough with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 and above. Solid knowledge of the internal architecture and behavior of SQL Server features is a must have as this position is responsible for designing and building complex transactional databases and data warehouses. Must have strong hands-on ability to write, tune, and troubleshoot using TSQL. Should be able to recommend why certain constructs are more efficient over others. 2+ years of hands on experience is a must. Must have 3+ years experience in managing production SQL Server instances in high volume mission critical transactional environments. Administration and troubleshooting experience of a high availability SQL Server environment is required as this position administers mission critical, enterprise wide clustered SQL Server instances. 2+ years of hands on clustered environment experience is a must. This individual must have some experience with development and administration of enterprise reporting environments, including working with some reporting tools. 2+ years experience required. Must have prior experience in working on application development projects utilizing standard development methodologies. Must have strong understanding and at least 3 years hands-on experience in working with Windows Operating Systems. 6+ years of experience with a Bachelors Degree, or 4+ years of experience with a Masters degree in IT or related field, out of which at least 4 years (3 years with Masters) experience in Database Administration.
