Here is the description:
Coordinates physical changes to computer databases; codes, tests, and 
implements physical database, applying knowledge of data base management 
system. 
Designs logical and physical databases reviews description of changes to 
database design to understand how changes to be made affect physical data base 
(how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics, such as location, 
amount of space, and access method). 
Establishes physical database parameters. 
Codes database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database to database 
management system or directs others in coding database descriptions. 
Calculates optimum values for database parameters, such as amount of computer 
memory to be used by database, following manuals and using calculator. 
Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items, such as 
insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data. 
Specifies which users can access data bases and what data can be accessed by 
user. 
Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database. 
Enters codes to create production data base.

Technology services that support legislatively mandated licensing systems are a 
core service of state government. Specifically, the SQL upgrade will improve 
DATCP's service to the public in these ways: 
The software will be at a version level that is supported by Microsoft.
The software performance will be improved.

Microsoft SQL is the database platform for the AMANDA licensing system used by 
the agency.  
There are currently 61 licenses, of the 94 possible licenses, being housed in 
the system.  In addition, there are a number of other smaller systems that use 
SQL for their database needs. 

The position will be responsible for the analysis, recommendation of tuning 
options for the agency SQL databases and the implementation of the selected 
options.  
The position will also be responsible for the analysis, planning, coordination 
and implementation of SQL Server 2005 for the agency databases.  
Project deliverables include but are not limited to: 
Analyzing and recommending tuning changes for the SQL database system. 
Implementation of tuning selections.  
Update documentation necessary to show the changes to the system.  
Creation of an Impact statement to upgrade the agency from SQL Server 2000 to 
SQL Server 2005. 
This should include (but not be limited to) hardware and software changes.  
Creation of a plan to upgrade the agency from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 
2005.   
Coordination of all resources necessary to implement the upgrade to SQL Server 
2005.  
Implementation of the software upgrade.  
Provide assistance to applications staff with problem determination and 
resolution.  
This project has an estimated duration of approximately 48 to 52 weeks. 
The position will report to David Shaw, who will assign specific tasks to be 
completed and judge when the project goals have been met. 
This position will work closely with the current department database 
administrator
