Database Administration/Warehousing Job Description Currently seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer to work out of our Santa Monica office. The Business Intelligence Engineer is a crucial member of the reporting team and will participate in all phases of implementation projects including: gathering functional requirements, developing functional and technical designs, development, documentation, and testing. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented Business Intelligence Engineer looking to support a growing application as well as gain exposure into and experience with a multi- terabytes enterprise data warehouse. This is a position that requires business intelligence experience as part of the professional's background. Responsibilities (including but not limited to): # Gather and document user requirements and provide functional designs to meet those requirements. # Translate functional requirements into technical designs when addressing specific functional requirements within the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence system. # Develop MicroStrategy and Oracle applications, either through actual SQL coding or through coordination with Oracle engineers. # Document functional requirements, functional designs, and all technical designs according to IT'S documentation standards. # Complete unit testing of work as well as integration testing with other custom components. # Candidate will apply MicroStrategy and Oracle development tools such as PL/SQL, Oracle Application Express, MicroStrategy Desktop, and MicroStrategy Narrowcast. Requirements: # At least 7 years of technical experience designing, implementing, and deploying business intelligence, OLAP, and decision support systems. # At least 5 years of MicroStrategy hands-on development experience # Must be able to translate high-level requirements into effective Business Intelligence solutions within the MicroStrategy or Oracle framework. # Must be able to perform technical tasks such as data modeling, Business Intelligence application specification, application modeling, construction, customization, performance optimization, technical product assistance, tuning/ optimization, and deployment support. # Must have strong functional knowledge of MicroStrategy platform. # Able to use PL/SQL development tools such as SQL Navigator or Toad, as well as maintain code in source-code control systems. # Understanding of core Business Intelligence/data warehousing technology: RDBMS, Web, Client/Server, and OLAP. # Business Intelligence development experience and programming experience (SQL); Web/Internet experience (Java, HTML, ASP, XML, XSL, JavaScript) # Have a strong understanding of technical, cost, risk and business implications of potential decisions on other projects and incorporates these into recommendation # Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Computer Information Systems or other similar quantitative field required. Highly preferred individual characteristics include: # Strong attention to detail, self-starter who relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. # Ability to write and documentation and complex reports in a clear and concise manner and ability to present information in a well organized, clear and efficient manner. # Ability to coach and mentor business users. # Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. # Strong aptitude for learning and understanding business process and needs. # Good team member, organizational planning skills and strong time management skills to balance dynamic workloads.
