Position: Oracle DBA (Face to face after telephonic) Location: Lincolnshire, IL Duration: 6+ months* *Job Description *We have an immediate need for an Oracle DBA backfill in Lincolnshire, Illinois. This position is through the end of the year at a minimum, and likely to continue into next year.** *Top 3 Skills 1) Performance Tuning on Oracle RAC 2) Oracle ASM/AWR/ADDM Knowledge 3) Experience working on an Oracle upgrade from 10G to 11G* *Job Description *CLIENT is currently in the midst of an upgrade from Oracle 10G (running on HP-UX) to Oracle 11G (running on RedHat Linux with one database on RAC). They have come into an issue where they do not have the expertise on their current team with Oracle RAC, and are looking to bring on a consultant to help. The database on Oracle RAC is not running correctly (taking hours and days to run queries) and they need to bring in help. The vast majority of this person's duties would be on performance tuning. CLIENT has a mostly automated monitoring environment, as they implemented Oracle Cloud Control to observe the environment. They perform monitoring activities on Friday to prevent working on the weekend. As this database is still in transition and upgrading, if the system needs to be restarted or rebooted it can be done for short period of time or overnight. *Additional Information *The most important thing to this manager is Oracle experience. He was the lead DBA who has become the DBA manager. Certifications are a plus, but not required. Technically, the manager is looking for: -Very strong knowledge of Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) to provide recommendations and solutions. -Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWR, ASM and ADDM -Performance tuning expertise in addition to backup/recovery knowledge** *Skills that would be a plus based on CLIENT environment include: *-Experience with Linux RedHat High Availability -Oracle RAT (Real Application Testing) -Apply Oracle patches (patch management) -Oracle Statspack, logminer, and flashback -Oracle Automatic CBO (Cost-Based Optimizer) Statistics Gathering -Oracle Automatic Undo Management -Oracle Active Session History (ASH) -Oracle Automoatic Segment Space Management -Oracle Automatic Memory Management -MySQL (Just being implemented and a major plus) * Work Environment *CLIENT currently has 2 Oracle DBA's supporting 5 Oracle Databases. 3 of these are large (2.5-4 terabytes), including the database running on RAC. The current FTE's don't have RAC expertise, and they are busy working with Staples as CLIENT prepares to take over their international sites. Culturally, this person will interact with developers and application support.
